“I’ve been involved for 40 years with United Way. You give once and you hit dozens of charities at once — it reaches so deeply into the community that it actually allows employees to say ‘I’ve done a lot for the community with just this one payroll deduction.’ Last year, Ian put out a challenge that the corporation would match dollar for dollar every employee donation to United Way. That was a really good incentive for our employees to get very involved. We more than doubled our participation. We have a committee of 15 or more employees, and that’s an excellent representation across the organization. We probably have well over 80 percent participation. Employees like that it’s one donation that covers such a variety of needs from kids’ programs to adult programs — all those things fit with the culture of our organization.”
