This work with those struggling with poverty or addiction changes us as people so richly share their difficult journey of real struggle with us. You see the beautiful side of humanity and gain a deeper understanding. We’re all a little richer when we help one another.
As I think about UWWRC’s campaign theme “I am the one”, it reminds me of a phrase that we often hear from those we serve at House of Friendship – “I never thought I would be the one!” I never thought I, or my loved one, would be the one needing food, shelter or help with other basic needs. It’s a reminder that we all need help in our journey of life, and that there is no guarantee that one day we won’t “be the one” needing support from our community.
