Mike had been living on the street when he first started visiting a drop-in program funded by United Way. But he continued to participate even after he found housing. “This place has become my community and my family,” says Mike. “It means I don’t have to spend all my time alone in my apartment.” For seniors living on their own, programs like this provide invaluable opportunities to find friendship and belonging.

United Way funding helped approximately 12,000 people become more involved in their communities by building a connection to their community centres, developing leadership skills or volunteering.
